What does it take to build a successful business, navigate challenges, adapt to changing markets, and continue growing for more than three decades?
On Wednesday, October 7, the Hondo Economic Development Corporation (HEDC) welcomed more than 40 attendees from Hondo and surrounding communities for its October Lunch B.I.T.E.S. workshop, Beyond Boutiques: Lessons in Growth with Sisters Boutique, held at The Venue by Chateau Claire.
The workshop featured Stacy and Katie of Sisters Boutique, a family owned business in Floresville, Texas, with more than 36 years of experience in retail and entrepreneurship. Through an engaging guided discussion and interactive Q&A session, attendees had the opportunity to hear firsthand about the experiences, challenges, and decisions that have shaped the business over the years.
Learning From a Community Similar to Our Own
When planning this workshop, HEDC wanted to bring a different perspective to its local business community by highlighting a successful business operating in a community with economic characteristics similar to Hondo.
Floresville was identified as a valuable comparison due to similarities in population, demographics, household income, and poverty levels. These shared characteristics made Sisters Boutique an especially relevant example of how businesses in smaller communities can achieve long term success, adapt to changing consumer needs, and identify opportunities for growth.
By connecting local entrepreneurs with business owners who have navigated similar market conditions, HEDC aimed to provide practical insights and encourage conversations about what business growth can look like in communities like Hondo.
Real Experiences, Valuable Lessons
Throughout the workshop, Stacy and Katie shared their experiences running a family business, maintaining customer relationships, navigating challenges, and finding new opportunities to grow and diversify.
The discussion explored topics such as marketing, staying relevant in a changing retail environment, working with family, building a strong community presence, and investing in the future of a business.
Attendees were also encouraged to ask questions and participate in conversations about the realities of entrepreneurship. The interactive format created an opportunity for local business owners to exchange ideas, learn from real experiences, and consider new approaches they could apply to their own businesses.
Supporting the Growth of Our Local Business Community
With more than 40 attendees representing Hondo and surrounding communities, the workshop highlighted the value of bringing entrepreneurs together to learn, connect, and share experiences.
HEDC extends its sincere appreciation to Stacy and Katie of Sisters Boutique for traveling to Hondo and generously sharing their knowledge, experiences, and lessons learned throughout their 36 years in business.
Thank you as well to everyone who attended and contributed to the conversation.
